Paying $1,875/month to live next to a construction site they said would take 6 months. Month 14.
The leasing agent said "early fall" three times in that tour. I specifically asked because the adjacent lot had equipment on it and I wanted to understand what I was getting into. Early fall. Wrapping up.
It's May. The construction started in March of last year. The crane appears to be constructing a 22-story residential tower. I have no idea when it will finish because the management company of my building is not the developer of the adjacent building and has, accurately, told me they cannot give me a timeline for a project they don't control.
The noise starts at 7am on weekdays and runs until approximately 4:30pm. Some days they do concrete work that produces a sustained vibration I can feel through my floor. The windows on the west side of my unit rattle for 10-15 second intervals throughout the day. I work from home. I have submitted 4 noise-adjacent complaints to the leasing office. They have acknowledged them and done nothing because there is genuinely nothing they can do.
I asked, at month 3, whether there was any accommodation available given that the condition of the unit was materially different from what I was shown at tour. The property manager was sympathetic and offered me a $100 credit. I said no. I asked for a lease amendment allowing early termination without penalty when the noise exceeds specified hours. They said that wasn't something they could offer.
My lease ends in August. I will not be renewing. The adjacent tower will likely still be under construction when I leave. The new tenants will be told, I assume, that construction is "wrapping up."
